Barkingside turned up for their cup match against Ridgeway down a few players as the half term holidays kicked in. With only 2 subs, fitness was clearly going to be a factor, especially in the second half when playing uphill and into the wind.
'Side went into an early lead when the Ridgeway "sweeper keeper" went walkabout and found himself a bit - well, a lot, out of position which Olivia took full advantage of.
Barkingside doubled the advantage a few minutes later when Joe escaped down the right wing slotting neatly home.
Ridgeway, against the run of play, pulled one back when an ill advised back pass didn't quite fine Jacob in goal but, 'Side didn't let their heads drop and kept pushing for that next goal.
Players were being asked to switch positions as rotations kicked in, but they kept a good shape and looked as solid in defence as they ever had. Not least of all down to Milo who was doing an amazing job of snuffing out the Ridgeway attacks.
Ellis grabbed the next goal with a clean strike from distance - quite a distance as it happens, from a free kick.
Ridgeway grabbed a goal back, effectively using the slope and wind to get their striker through on goal.
Then, Milo (did I mention he was playing a binder!) took a shot from just in their half and left the goalkeeper stranded - banger....
Ellis wrapped up the match with a nice goal following another of Jacobs "long........" kicks out. Ellis was a little distracted when the ball was played, waking up after a few words from his Dad, beating his defender and slotting neatly home.
