U11's Fight Back v APSA

In a cold and blustery wind which was whistling across the flats, the U11's managed to fight back against a spirited APSA team.

Against the run of play, APSA took the lead following a defensive mix up by Barkingside, which left their striker one on one with Milo which he put away very neatly.

Unlike in some previous matches though, they didn't let their heads drop and stuck to their task, finally getting a goal back late in the first half. Joe picked the ball up on the right of the pitch and drove forward towards the goal. A great strike saw the ball nestling in the back of the net.

Half time and they were now playing into that biting wind. Barkingside were pushing hard for another goal, but occasionally getting caught off guard as APSA got forward.

Following some great midfield interplay, and with just a hint (ahem!) of offside, William latched onto a through ball and calmly put it past the keeper.

The nerves of the parents on the sideline were visibly calmed and rather than sit on their lead, the U11's kept pushing for that extra goal.

They were still nearly getting caught out pushing too far forward and only leaving a skeleton defence at the back, until Ariyan, finally getting some width into the play, latched onto a nice pass by Joey, cut in towards the goal and shot neatly past their keeper.

Barely 5 minutes later and the match was beyond doubt. William crossed the ball into the area where Ariyan was waiting. A deft flick behind fooled the defence and keeper and flew into the net.

Into the last few minutes and APSA finally got the goal their breaks forward were threatening. Milo was caught out of his goal and a slightly hopeful ball over the top went into the net.

There was just enough time for Barkingside to mount another attack which very nearly resulted in another goal before the whistle went for full time.

That'll be full time for the match and full time for the U11's 23/24 season.

See you all in October.
