U11's Battle Hard against Gozteppe

Writer: Jonathan PowellJonathan Powell

The U11's had the graveyard shift on Sunday with the 2.30 kick off slot. Several of the U10's came along to help out as a few of the regulars were unavailable - they all played brilliantly.

In an ever fading light, they started well, battling hard to win the ball in midfield and made a few chances that unfortunately didn't quite convert into goals. They were very unlucky to slip behind at the end of the first quarter, conceding another goal before half time.

Strangely the first half was cut 10 minutes short. Apparently because of the late kick off. In fairness it probably was the right decision as it was getting quite dark by the end of the match.

The U11's started the second half well, getting well stuck into the challenges. Unfortunately the referee decided that one or two were getting a little too much and insisted that first, a Barkingside player and then a Gozteppe player were subbed off until they calmed down a bit.

Against the run off play Gozteppe got a very soft penalty which they dispatched well. Barkingside didn't let their heads drop though and continued to launch wave after wave of attacks, principally through Olivia down the right wing which finally ended up with William sliding in to pock home a goal in the final few minutes.
