On a sunny but windy Sunday morning, the under 11's gathered a somewhat depleted team to attempt to avenge a previous 8-0 loss to Brimsdown FC.
With so many regulars away, reinforcements were called in from the U12's and U10's BYFC teams.
A special mention to Theodore from the U12's who turned up with his goalkeeping gloves and answered the cry for help with regular and stand in keepers (Milo and Jacob) absent (rumour has it, sunning it up in Barbados.....).
With the under 10's game not finishing until 11am, the match started with BYFC a player down, 8 players on the field. But enthusiasm was high and resilience strong.
The half finished 1-2 at half time, Benji scoring a cracker of a goal from the left side of the box. It felt like a fair reflection of a competitive, but even, half.
The second half started in much the same way with both teams giving it a go; defences on top, tackles hard but fair. A couple of close decisions went the way of Brimsdown and a combination of storm Katherine and an immense sugar crash from a week of overindulgence of chocolate-based-egg-products saw a dramatic drop off in performance level from the U11s.
Very Aston-Villa-esque; BYFC shipped 3 goals without reply. Even a 20 yard screamer from captain Tommy B couldn't rouse them from their post prandial slumber and they fell to an 8-2 defeat.
There was clear and understandable disappointment that the score was so definitively one-sided. They will hope to bounce back next week in the next round of the cup.
Phil "Arteta" Ditchburn is likely to ring the changes with some who played today looking nervously at the subs bench.....
